Now it;s time to commit?

The response was overwhelming in favor having another reunion- 100% approval. Now we need to agree on the venue. The most votes went to the Seaview (42%), so now we have to commit to whether or not I start the process of getting it set up.

Please vote:

Once I get general agreement I will contact the hotel (I’ve already had an initial conversation) and get the ball rolling.

MAKE SURE YOU VOTE AND TELL YOUR CONTACTS TO ALSO VOTE

Jody A and a mini NJ reunion

Hi all,

Jody Avallone had a mini get-together in New Jersey last week and he sent along some pictures in a PowerPoint. I’ve taken the liberty off putting them into a video with a bit of music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did seeing some great old friends.

Should we have a reunion in 2012

Please look at the polls and let me know if you think we could pull off another reunion like the one we had in NJ in 2008 which was a HUGE success

PS- My email address for Ray Handy and Mike Mansfield keeps bouncing. Does anyone have a new one for either of them?

Welcome to the new Rho site

Well it has been a long, long time since I last put anything up. So I wanted to reach out and start anew. Things have been unbelievably busy for me and I’m sure it’s the same for all of you. However, I think it’s time to start getting reconnected.

You will notice that the old site has gone away and it’s been migrated over to this new WordPress site. While I really like WordPress because I use it extensively for my work (www.tomatmicrosoft.com), I miss the ability to have photo albums running. I will be able to post new pictures and albums but if you want to see the old ones, you’ll have to go to my SkyDrive site to see them now.

The 1st notification from this new site comes from Big D. He informed me of the Dayton Jersey Shore dates for this summer. It will be a bit latter than in the past. From his email:

The annual trip to the Jersey Shore has been moved till the last week of July. The new dates are the week of July 25th till the 31st. I am planning on coming in the 27th of July and staying till Sunday, possibly Monday the 1st of August. Hope this works out for everyone who wants to come.  Eddie C

I wish I could make it, but unfortunately I’m not heading back this summer, but I am thinking about maybe another reunion for the summer of 2012. Let me know if you want me to start that process. Just leave comments on the website rather than emails. This way everyone can see what is being said.

Later- TJ

A video and some pictures

Hi all,

Thought you’d get a kick out of the video Wit sent me from his sister-in-law. Those of us who were in Dayton this summer had a chance to walk the campus and get the memory rushes along with appreciating the awe of the changes that have taken place since we walked these grounds. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

From Wit’s email:

Received this from my sister-in-law Carol “McDougal” Cashman.  enjoy. Some things about UD never change except for all the new buildings (and old ones that are fixed up).

Thanks to Jim and Carol

While you’re here, you might want to see the pictures of our cottage in Gweebarra Cottage Doochary, Co. Donegal. The pictures are on my Flickr site HERE

Hope all is well with you and make sure to keep in touch and share some pictures. I’m seeing more and more people using Facebook, so if you’re on it let us know.

A Celebration for Scott

So, I’ve been unreasonably slow in getting the pictures from Dayton onto the site. Many of us travelled back to Dayton for Scott’s funeral. While it was an unbelievably sad time, it was also a celebration of the life of one God’s great guys. Scott had a special place in the hearts of many people and that was evidenced by the number of Rhos and Rho-ettes who travelled back to UD and by the love and respect shown by his workmates and friends from the Dayton Police Department (The Boys).

Darryl, Sherry and Scott in New Jersey 2007

Many of us arrived on the Thursday for the wake on Friday and for the funeral on Saturday. It took place at Holy Angels Church on Brown Street and was a wonderful ceremony with readings from his son, Craig, and Sherry’s sister, Bettina .Sherry was a tower of strength, as was Darryl and the whole Stimmel family. It was a privilege to have shared in the joy of Scott’s life and be considered a friend.

It was an odd experience to walk the streets of the UD campus again after so many years. The changes that have taken place since we left are fantastic. We visited the “new” UD Bookstore and it’s a far cry from what we had. We also stopped into Kramers and Timothy’s (pics in the new album) and you’ll be reassured that they are the same dumps they were 40 years ago!! Milano’s is a different story. It’s huge and a far cry from the pizzeria we all worked in and delivered pizzas for .

Please take a few minutes to check out the photos and leave some comments.

There’s a hole in my heart, but whenever I picture Scott, I see that smile and it fills me with hope and joy.

Long time- no talk

Well, this is as bad as I have ever been with regards to getting in touch with everyone. Lots of time has passed since there’s been any communication amongst us, other than medical updates on some of our Brothers (more in a bit)

I just want to check back in and let you know that things are still great here in Northern Ireland and it’s been a busy year (almost) since we all that that fantastic time in Jersey. It’s hard to believe how fast time goes by.

Unless you missed it, you’ll know that Eileen and I hooked up in Hong Kong in November for a week. I was there on a Microsoft event and she was there on a regular business trip. THE BEST TOUR GUIDE OF ALL TIMES!!! She know HK inside out and we had a fantastic time in an amazing city.

I thought I’d start with an update on this year’s get together in Avalon. Unfortunately, I won’t be there this time as I have family coming in my direction for a change. yahoo!!! But I do intend to be home this coming Christmas holiday and next summer with a side trip of 5 or 6 days to California, so let’s start thinking about getting together there for a day or 2. I’ll work with Eileen on that one.

I have been in contact with Dominic and Big D and it looks like the Jersey summer get together is happening a week earlier this year. Big D and family will be arriving on June 27th and leaving on July  3rd. Dom, Ed and Sue and the Cassous are also looking at the same time frame. I’m sure they will reply to my email about this update if things change. Once again, it’s happening at the Concord Suites in Avalon.

If you heading East this summer, make plans early if you want to have room availability.

On a more sombre note, some of our Brothers continue to deal with serious health issues. Scott has had a re-occurrence of his throat cancer and Belluch has been doing an unbelievable job supporting him (and her and the family) through this very difficult time.

Also, Bob Fleming (Aka-Duck) is also dealing with throat cancer. For those of you who don’t know Duck, he’s from Chitown and grew up with Chitown Murph and Gogman. He was also a very good friend to John K so he has felt and shared our deep grief over the loss of those special guys. He is here (front row-left kneeling) at K’s memorial. Drop him an email as he would greatly appreciate it (bfleming00@aol.com) and a big thanks to Slink for the updates.

There are a few others that I haven’t heard any updates on but keep Mike Negri, Fish, Dibble, Killer and Bob Cassou and Scott and Duck in your thoughts and prayers.

I’ve been really enjoying my job and if you want to keep up with what I’m doing, you can follow me on:

There’s a couple more, but I’m starting to bore you.

I promise not to take so long for the next update. There are a few new names on the email list and let me know if there is anyone you want me to add.

It’s been a while

Well, have I been lazy or what.

It’s been way too long since I put anything up so I ask your forgiveness and hope we start to reconnect again. After that summer bash, I think we all went away numb from the amount of excitement and good feelings we all experienced. So now it’s time to catch up again.

First big apologies to Jody Avalone, Chitown Murph and Kevin Callahan. They all sent me items that I have been procrastinating on.

I have put their pictures up in albums for each of them, take a minute and check them out

A big welcome to Billy Brazee my Jersey buddy  and Dayton pal who’s been out of the loop way to long!!!

I want to also welcome Kevin , brother of Dan "the Ghost" Callahan. I have copied in his email and what a terrific surprise to see our "long lost Brother Floyd" again.

For those who lived in the Rho House, he was and is a special guy. It’s so good to see his smiling face again. here is Kevin’s email:

TJ,
My name is Kevin Callahan, I am a ’79 grad of UD.  I pledged the Rho’s in the fall of ’75.
I think you know my brother Dan Callahan. ‘Ghost’.
Thank you for doing such a great job on the Rho website.  I would like to add a photo that was taken last weekend.
I was in Dayton last weekend, and got together with a few other Rho brothers.  We ended up at Milanos for dinner.  One of the guys in the photo is Floyd Nelson.  You may remember Floyd as the UD painter that hung around with the Rho’s.  By the time I got to UD Floyd had been made an Honorary brother.  Floyd is a Pearl Harbor Survivor, and tuned 88 today (9/10/08).
Again thanks for doing such a great job on the website.
(L-R) Floyd Nelson, Brian Dormish, John Sechrist, Ed Poster, Kevin Callahan.
Kevin

I’m off to Hong Kong this week and will be hooking up with Eileen while I’m there. I’m sure there will be some great stories to tell and pictures to follow, so keep visiting the site. Visit my work site to find out what I’m up to.
